Jane Voorhees has made Asheville, NC her home for over 20 years. Drawn to the extraordinary beauty of the western North Carolina mountains, she is inspired by the ever changing colors and moods of the landscape. Jane's great passions include painting, books and travel.
Jane grew up in a large creative family. Her father, Edwin and mother Mildred, both painters, made the decision in 1964 to leave NYC corporate life and to move the family of eight to the coast of North Carolina to pursue their art interests. Influenced by their creative endeavors and their artistic nurturing, Jane as well as several of her siblings have developed artistic careers of their own. A story about the art interests of the Voorhees family was featured in Our State Magazine, May 2003.
The annual Voorhees Family Art Show has grown out of this shared love of art. Each year family members gather together in Asheville and exhibit their new work. Proceeds from this show have funded an award in honor of Edwin & Mildred Voorhees at the annual Watercolor Society of NC juried show.
Work by Jane Voorhees is exhibited at Woolworth Walk and Hand in Hand Gallery in Flat Rock, NC. Her cards featuring her watercolor images can be found in many shops around the southeast.
